Rapid Antigen Test

About Rapid Tests.

‘Rapid tests’ are tests that are taken and processed immediately after taking, offering a result within 15-30 minutes of sampling.

To date, they are not as accurate as PCR tests (which remains the ‘gold standard’) however:

  • Private PCR tests can take 48-72 hours to receive your results.
  • Batch testing by PCR is costly.
  • For some settings, there is a benefit to an ‘immediate’ result.

Avante Health is constantly monitoring the market, and has procured an 2 types of rapid tests. We consider the tests we offer give a good balance between affordability, accuracy and rapidity.

About the SD Biosensor Standard Q test

Date on rapid tests is evolving, and trials of Standard Q are encouraging: they have mostly involved symptomatic individuals, and trials during the pandemic have shown 96.52% of sensitivity and 99.68% of specificity.

About the Surescreen Rapid Antigen Test

SureScreen’s COVID-19 antigen rapid test identifies COVID-19 antigen present in a swab sample, and gives a qualitative yes/no result within 15 minutes. The company quote a sensitivity of 94-95% and Specificity of 100%.

What this means:

If someone due to attend your meeting or event has coronavirus, it is very likely our rapid test device would establish they are positive. Therefore if everyone tests negative, this offers reassurance with a high degree of probability that the proposed meeting/ gathering is safe.

There is a small risk someone may test positive even though they don’t have coronavirus, which means they will need to withdraw from the meeting or gathering and would require to isolate until a PCR test result is available. We can coordinate the test and any clinical assessment/ advice for them, and endeavour to get a PCR result as quickly as we can.

How do we take your sample?

The swab is taken from your throat and nose.

What happens after we take your sample?

Multiple samples can be processed at the same time, meaning members of a sports team or meeting attendees can all be tested just prior to a gathering. We can process samples on site or back at our office. Results are available as quickly as 15 minutes, or where a batch are processed together, within 1 hour.

How do I arrange a test?

You can book tests online on our covid tests booking page. Please call us or fill out our contact form for more information before you book.
