Company Health Checks: Why Having a GP Who Knows Your Team Matters
More than a one-off health check. We're helping business leaders and HR directors provide meaningful, joined-up healthcare benefits, with access to a GP team that gets to know their employees and is there when they need help.
For many small and medium-sized businesses, looking after employees is a priority, but providing meaningful healthcare benefits can be expensive. Even larger companies with comprehensive healthcare packages can find that the support their employees receive is rather fragmented. An annual health check from one provider, an online GP appointment with another, and private medical insurance when specialist treatment is needed. All useful services, but not necessarily joined up.
At 222 Healthcare, we're developing our corporate healthcare offering around a slightly different approach. We believe health checks are an excellent starting point, but the real value comes from having them with a GP practice that gets to know your employees and can continue supporting them when they need help.
A health check should be the beginning, not the end
One of the principles behind our new 222 HealthTrack programmes is that everyone starts with a GP consultation. We're carrying this approach through to our corporate health programmes because we think it's important to understand the person behind the blood test results.
By investing a little time in an initial appointment, we can understand an employee's medical history, discuss any existing concerns and establish a starting point for their future healthcare. Their results can then be interpreted in context, rather than simply producing a report full of figures and leaving them to work out what it all means.
But perhaps the greatest value comes six months or a year later, when something isn't quite right. Rather than starting again with a doctor they've never met, employees can return to a GP practice that already knows something about them. We can look at what's changed, assess their symptoms and help decide what needs to happen next.
Sometimes that might mean identifying a concern early and helping someone access the appropriate NHS services. Sometimes it might mean helping them make better use of their existing private medical insurance, by investigating a problem and directing them towards the most appropriate specialist. And sometimes it may simply mean reassurance, treatment or follow-up within our own practice.
We don't believe good healthcare should consist of a series of disconnected tests, appointments and referrals. The real value is having a GP who knows you, sees the bigger picture and helps you get the right care, wherever that care is best provided.
More than a health screening company
We're not simply a provider of corporate health checks. We're an established private GP practice, offering care six days a week, including Saturdays. Our services include GP consultations, physical examinations, blood tests, ECGs, prescriptions, referrals and ongoing care. This means that when an employee needs something more than a health assessment, we're here to help.
Remote consultations are an important part of what we offer, particularly for employees who live further away. But we also recognise that sometimes there is no substitute for seeing a patient in person. Our clinic is located just off Junction 5 of the M40, with free parking and easy access from Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and much of the wider South East.
Why businesses and employees are choosing us
We know from our patient feedback how much people value having sufficient time, being listened to and receiving clear explanations. This is something we've always tried to prioritise, and it is particularly important when health checks are being provided as an employee benefit.
One employee who received a workplace-funded health assessment recently commented:
"We are very lucky to have this service offered to us at work. From the appointment, report and follow up call, it was all very professional and informative."
Verified Doctify patient review, July 2026.
This is just one example of the feedback we've received. With over 400 patient reviews across Doctify and Google, we're proud of the trust people place in our team and the standard of care we work hard to maintain.
For us, the employee's comments capture what a good corporate health benefit should achieve. Something that employees genuinely appreciate, that helps them understand their health and that provides a useful starting point for future care.
Making healthcare benefits work for smaller businesses
We recognise that businesses have different budgets and priorities, and not every company wants or needs comprehensive private medical insurance. We're therefore developing flexible arrangements that allow employers to choose the services most relevant to their staff, including annual health checks, ongoing HealthTrack programmes and access to private GP care.
Businesses can also open a company account with us, making it straightforward to arrange healthcare for employees as and when the need arises. This might be a GP appointment for an employee who needs medical advice, seasonal flu vaccinations for the team, hepatitis vaccinations for staff with occupational exposure risks, or other occupational health assessments and medical investigations. Rather than having to establish a separate arrangement each time, employers have an existing relationship with our practice and can arrange services through a central account, with straightforward company billing.
There may also be tax advantages to providing certain healthcare benefits. HMRC offers exemptions for qualifying annual health-screening assessments and medical check-ups, as well as certain vaccinations and occupational health services. We're looking at how our corporate packages can align with these exemptions where appropriate, helping employers make the most of their healthcare budgets. Other services, including routine GP consultations, may be treated as taxable benefits, so businesses should seek appropriate tax advice.
Importantly, our services don't need to replace existing private medical insurance. For companies that already provide it, having an established GP service can help employees navigate their healthcare more effectively, including knowing when a specialist referral is appropriate and how best to access further care.
Why we're taking this approach
As we approach our fifth anniversary, we've been reflecting on what patients particularly value about our service. It isn't necessarily having the most extensive blood test panel or the quickest possible online consultation. It's being able to speak to someone who takes the time to understand their concerns, explains the findings and helps them decide what to do next.
We think there is an opportunity to bring more of this continuity into corporate healthcare, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses that may previously have found meaningful employee healthcare benefits too expensive or complicated to provide.
Our aim is to build longer-term relationships with employers and their staff, starting with good preventative healthcare but providing access to a proper GP service when it's needed.
Because the real value of a company health check isn't just knowing your results. It's knowing that when something goes wrong, there's a GP practice that already knows you and is ready to help.
