Side effects are usually mild and may include stomach upset or nausea. Serious side effects are very rare.

Protection develops about 1 week after the second dose and lasts for around 2 years (shorter in children, who may need extra doses).

Cholera is a bacterial infection caused by Vibrio cholerae, spread through contaminated food and water. It can cause severe watery diarrhoea and dehydration. While rare for most short-term travellers, it may be a risk in areas with poor sanitation or during outbreaks.

Unlike most vaccines, Dukoral is an oral vaccine. It usually involves two doses taken 1–6 weeks apart, with a booster needed after 2 years if ongoing risk remains.

No. The first dose is always given in clinic, but the second can either be kept for you at the clinic (so you return for us to administer it), or taken home for you to self-administer.
