However, advice can vary when it comes to travel: many practices now advise that for travel purposes you should get vaccinated at a private clinic like ours.

Most people tolerate the vaccine well. The most common side effects are soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or headache. These usually settle within a day or two. Serious side effects are very rare.
It is recommended for travellers to parts of the world where hepatitis A is common (including parts of Asia, Africa, Central and South America, and Eastern Europe). It may also be advised for people at higher occupational or lifestyle risk.
The standard course is two doses, usually given 6–12 months apart. The first dose provides good short-term protection, and the second dose extends protection for up to about 25 years.
One dose offers protection for about 1 year. Completing the 2-dose course provides long-term protection for about 25 years.
It protects against hepatitis A, a virus that causes liver inflammation, which can lead to symptoms such as fever, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, and jaundice.
