Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE)

A full course involves three doses: the first two are usually given 1–3 months apart, followed by a third dose at 5–12 months after the second.

Most people tolerate the vaccine well. The most common side effects are soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or headache. These usually settle within a day or two. Serious side effects are very rare.

After completing the full 3-dose course, protection usually lasts for at least 3 years. If you remain at risk, booster doses are recommended every 3–5 years, depending on your age and the guidance in the country where you are vaccinated.

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is a viral infection spread by the bite of infected ticks. It can cause flu-like symptoms and, in some cases, serious inflammation of the brain and nervous system.

BE is most common in parts of central, eastern, and northern Europe, as well as Russia and some areas of East Asia. It is often contracted in rural areas, forests, and grasslands during outdoor activities.
