This blood test screens for the three principal bloodborne viruses (BBVs) encountered in occupational health, healthcare settings and following potential exposure to blood or body fluids. It includes a fourth-generation HIV-1 & HIV-2 Antigen/Antibody test, Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) and Hepatitis C Antibody. It is commonly requested for pre-employment medicals, healthcare worker clearance, occupational health surveillance, needlestick assessment and general bloodborne virus screening. If your exposure has occurred within the last few days, some infections may not yet be detectable because of recognised laboratory window periods. Our GPs will advise whether repeat testing is recommended. If you also need to demonstrate immunity following hepatitis B vaccination, consider our Hepatitis B Immunity Screen, which additionally measures protective hepatitis B antibodies.

Attend your appointment and one of our experienced nurses or phlebotomists will collect your blood sample. If your test also includes another sample, such as urine or stool, we will provide the necessary collection kit and clear instructions.
Results are typically available within 2 working days. Some individual markers may take longer if they require specialist laboratory processing. We will normally wait until the full profile is complete before issuing your reviewed results.
