Cervical Screening Test
A cervical (smear) test that checks for high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV), the main cause of cervical cancer. If HPV is detected, the same sample is automatically sent for cytology (cell analysis) to check for abnormal cervical cells.

Cervical screening can be carried out at any time, but results are often easier to interpret when you are not menstruating. If possible, we recommend booking your appointment in the middle of your cycle. Avoid using vaginal creams, lubricants, or pessaries for 48 hours before the test, as these may affect the sample.
