Attend your appointment and one of our experienced nurses or phlebotomists will collect your blood sample. If your test also includes another sample, such as urine or stool, we will provide the necessary collection kit and clear instructions.
Results are typically available within 2 working days. Some individual markers may take longer if they require specialist laboratory processing. We will normally wait until the full profile is complete before issuing your reviewed results.
Fasting is not essential for most cholesterol tests. LDL and HDL cholesterol change very little after eating, although triglycerides can be more affected. You may therefore choose to fast for 8–12 hours for the clearest triglyceride result, but for most people either approach is acceptable. Plain water is fine.
This test may be particularly useful for: Routine health screening; Family history of heart disease or diabetes; Raised cholesterol; Preventative health.
This test is commonly chosen when investigating: High cholesterol; Family history of heart disease; Family history of diabetes; Weight concerns. Blood tests are only one part of an assessment, and results should be considered alongside your symptoms and medical history.
This test may help assess or investigate: Raised cholesterol; Prediabetes; Diabetes; Increased cardiovascular risk. An abnormal result does not necessarily confirm a diagnosis, but it may help guide further assessment.
This profile includes: HbA1c; Cholesterol; Triglycerides; Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) Calculated; HDL Cholesterol; LDL Cholesterol; Total Cholesterol/HDL Ratio; HDL % of Total; Non-HDL Cholesterol.
