This laboratory test uses a fourth-generation HIV-1 & HIV-2 antigen/antibody assay, allowing earlier detection than older antibody-only tests. It is suitable following occupational exposure, needlestick injuries, healthcare worker screening, sexual exposure or for general reassurance. Results are reviewed by one of our GPs who will explain the findings and advise if any follow-up testing is required.

Attend your appointment and one of our experienced nurses or phlebotomists will collect your blood sample. If your test also includes another sample, such as urine or stool, we will provide the necessary collection kit and clear instructions.
Results are typically available within 2 working days. Some individual markers may take longer if they require specialist laboratory processing. We will normally wait until the full profile is complete before issuing your reviewed results.
